Falcons | Atlanta focused on Matt Ryan extension   Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan's potential contract extension will be the focus of the offseason, according to general manager Thomas Dimitroff.  01/18 12:52
Raiders | Greg Olson raves about Derek Carr   Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr was given high praise from new offensive coordinator Greg Olson. Olson opined that Carr's football intelligence is 'off the charts' and spoke highly of the quarterback's physical talent, accuracy and quick release.  01/18 12:20
Patriots | Tom Brady takes step forward   New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (hand) returned to practice Thursday, Jan. 18, after injuring his hand in practice Wednesday, Jan. 17. The swelling in Brady's hand doesn't appear to have worsened as he was practicing instead of receiving treatment. The extent of Brady's practice participation was not disclosed. Footballguys View: This is worth watching, and he has a brutal matchup. That said, the only way Brady doesn't play and find a way to perform is on a stretcher or in a casket. He'll put up points and while the production may not be what he normally does, who are you trusting over him? Nick Foles against a tough Minnesota defense? Blake Bortles? Case Keenum? It's not a great mathcup and the injury is a worry but he's the most reliable guy here.  01/18 11:48
Bears | Calvin Ridley makes sense for Bears   Alabama WR Calvin Ridley was given to the Chicago Bears in the first 2018 mock draft by ESPN NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper. Ridley is widely considered the top wide receiver available in the 2018 draft class. Footballguys View: The Bears are desperate for receiving help. Kevin White is never healthy and Alshon Jeffery is long gone. It's too early to take mocks seriously - well, it's always too early for that - but this makes a lot of sense.  01/18 11:22
Jaguars | Tashaun Gipson remains sidelined   Jacksonville Jaguars FS Tashaun Gipson (foot) isn't expected to practice Thursday, Jan. 18.  01/18 10:33
Jaguars | Leonard Fournette likely to practice   Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette (ankle) is expected to practice Thursday, Jan. 18. Footballguys View: Fournette will continue to be the centerpiece of this offense, which means the Patriots will focus on stopping him and making Blake Bortles beat them. That said, Fournette should have success against a defense which has struggled to slow running backs down. The biggest factor will be whether or not the Patriots offense gets far enough ahead to where the Jaguars have to abandon the run. We still like Fournette as one of the better plays this weekend.  01/18 10:33
Panthers | Luke Kuechly bows out of Pro Bowl   Carolina Panthers LB Luke Kuechly (undisclosed) won't play in the Pro Bowl due to an undisclosed injury. The injury isn't considered serious, according to team sources. Footballguys View: As is becoming more frequent, top players bow out of what is not the prestige event it used to be, though the actual play has never been all that incredible. Still, it was once something any player wanted to do, and now it seems to be a lot of them are taking a hard pass.  01/18 09:55
Browns | Joe Thomas' triceps on the mend   Updating previous reports, Cleveland Browns OT Joe Thomas (triceps, knee, back) is on track to be cleared for football activities in June or July following triceps surgery. Thomas said knee and back injuries are of greater concern, though. Footballguys View: We wonder how much Thomas has left in the tank. It would be a shame to see an All-Time great player never play in the Super Bowl or even on a good team. But we respect Thomas for staying in Cleveland when a lot of other players got out.  01/18 09:06
Lions | Ron Prince fired   Detroit Lions offensive line coach Ron Prince was fired on Monday, Jan. 1.  01/18 00:30
Browns | Joe Thomas' future remains unclear   Cleveland Browns OT Joe Thomas (triceps) said that he was not ready 'to make a decision one way or the other just yet' in regards to continuing his playing career or retiring. Thomas made the remarks Wednesday, Jan. 17, while attending the Greater Cleveland Sports Awards.  01/18 00:23
Ravens | Justin Tucker reclaims top spot   Baltimore Ravens PK Justin Tucker converted 34 of his 37 field goal attempts during the 2017 season, putting him at 202-for-224 on FGAs in his career. His 90.2 percent conversion rate is the best in NFL history; he overtook Dallas Cowboys PK Dan Bailey (88.2) late in the season after Bailey missed a pair of kicks.  01/18 00:19
Falcons | Charlie Weis Jr. departs   Atlanta Falcons offensive assistant Charlie Weis Jr. was named offensive coordinator of Florida Atlantic University on Wednesday, Jan. 17.  01/18 00:07
Eagles | Jay Ajayi driven to avenge Miami decision   Philadelphia Eagles RB Jay Ajayi said that he's 'driven' to avenge the Miami Dolphins' decision to trade him earlier in the season and that he's trying to prove them wrong for shipping him out in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick. He added, 'I don't think it will be redemption until I win the Super Bowl. If we can get that done, then I'll have my redemption.' Footballguys View: We aren't shocked he's motivated and while we understood his off-field attitude needed work, we still think the Dolphins pulled the rip cord too soon. Frankly, nobody seems to know what way is up in Miami. Ajayi and the Eagles face a tough task in the form of a good Minnesota defense this week. The top of the running backs are tight this week, but Ajayi could be decent value for his production - which should be solid - in DFS.  01/17 22:52
Dolphins | No hometown discount for Jarvis Landry   Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry does not plan on taking any sort of hometown discount, according to his agent, Damarius Bilbo. 'Absolutely not,' said Bilbo when asked about the issue. 'This may be Jarvis' first and last time to set himself up and his family up. He needs to strike and strike while the iron is hot.' Bilbo also mentioned that he is waiting on the Dolphins to respond to his contract proposal. Footballguys View: Sounds like Bilbo's been messing around with the One Ring to Rule them all and it's turning him and Landry to the Dark Side. Wait, that's mixing movies. Anyway, Landry could make bank elsewhere and it's hard to know which way Miami is going right now. IS there a plan? We can't see it and if Landry thinks the same, departing might be best for him and his bank account.  01/17 22:51
Colts | DeAndre Smelter inks Reserve/Future deal   Free-agent WR DeAndre Smelter (49ers) signed a Reserve/Future contract with the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday, Jan. 17.  01/17 21:28
Patriots | Tom Brady 'should be OK' for Sunday   Updating a previous report, New England Patriots QB Tom Brady's (hand) 'hand should be OK,' a source told Mike Reiss of ESPN.com. It could affect him 'slightly' but the belief is that he should be good overall for the Conference Championship game Sunday, Jan. 21, against the Jacksonville Jaguars.  01/17 21:22
Saints | Delvin Breaux cleared for activities   New Orleans Saints CB Delvin Breaux (leg) has been cleared to participate in all football-related activities Wednesday, Jan. 17.  01/17 20:55
Dolphins | Eric Studesville joins Miami coaching staff   Former Denver Broncos running backs coach Eric Studesville has joined the Miami Dolphins in the same role. Studesville and head coach Adam Gase were on the same staff in Denver under former head coaches Josh McDaniels and John Fox.  01/17 20:45
Titans | Marcus Mariota top play action passer in '17   Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota led all quarterbacks in passer rating on play action passes during the 2017 regular season, finishing with a 122.8 mark. Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins (118.7) and Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (117.4) finished second and third, respectively.  01/17 20:24
Cardinals | James Bettcher competing for Arizona HC job   Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator James Bettcher is still a candidate for the team's head coaching vacancy. Since he's been with the Cardinals for five years, a second interview won't be necessary.  01/17 19:42
