Waiver Wire Discussion

Post by wolfe »

We started the discussion at the draft and I meant to start this thread earlier. Anyway here are the waiver packages available on MFL. Of course we could come up with our custom set of rules if we wanted.
"Yahoo" package
Waiver Request from kickoff of the first game of the week through Thursday 3am ET.
Between that time and kickoff of the first game of the week, all unlocked players are available via "Acquire Free Agents" on a first-come, first served basis, and all locked (recently dropped) players are on waivers, and assigned on a worst-to-first basis, nightly at 3am ET until kickoff of the first game of the following week.
Once a player is dropped, he is "locked" until 3am ET at least X days later.
Waiver Request Package 1
Waiver requests starting at kickoff of the first game of the week until D Day at T Time and then first come, first served until kickoff of the first game of the following week.
This is similar to the Yahoo package except players are not locked for X days when dropped.
Zealots Package
Waiver Request from Sunday's kickoff through Wednesday 12:15am ET.
Waiver Request from Wednesday 12:15am through Thursday 12:15am ET.
Waiver Request from Thursday 12:15am through Friday 12:15am ET.
Waiver Request from Friday 12:15am through Saturday 12:15am ET.
Waiver Request from Saturday 12:15am through Sunday 12:15am ET.
No Waivers from Sunday 12:15am through Sunday kickoff.
(for week 12's Thursday games, No Waivers period runs from Thursday 12:15am through Sunday's kickoff).
Waivers end at kickoff of Week 13.
This package does not have a first come, first served period. I'm not sure I like that idea.

Of course, we could set up any custom rules that we want.
My proposal
First Come, First Served (FCFS) period after draft.
Waiver period starts Kickoff of first game on Sunday.
Waiver period ends sometime on Tuesday afternoon/evening. This is when players would be claimed off waivers based on waiver requests.
First Come, First Served period from Tuesday to kick off of first game on Sunday. This means FCFS during Thursday games (starting in Week 10) or Saturday games (Week 15 & 16 this year)

Do you think we need to lock a dropped player for X days or until the next waiver period? I don't think so, but it is an option.

To determine waiver wire order it uses the following tiebreakers: 1) Overall Record 2) Total Points 3) Division Record 4) Reverse Order Of Opponent Total Points Scored 5) Power Rank 6) Victory Points 7) Week 1 Points
The rules are fair. The regulations are fair.

I like the idea of Thursday-Tuesday waivers and FCFS from Tuesday afternoon until first kickoff of the week (including or not including Thur/Sat games).

I vote no to the waiver wire. This is one of those things that we always refer to as being "unique" and "it makes us different than other leagues". I like it being open to pick up people as you like. So my vote is no.

It has been like it is at the present for 10 .... 15 years and now it needs to be tweaked???

I have heard different waiver wire ideas but the reason why a change should be considered seems to escape me. Maybe I read the post to fast or maybe you need to dumb it down for me. Just a couple of sentences please. Anyone in favor ofa change let us know why a change would be better than the present system.

Did we not pay our waiver wire bill or what?

OK, so that's 'NO' from Shane.
Some people were talking about it before the draft while we were waiting on things to start. If there isn't enough support, then no big deal.

Hey Commish, I thought we couldnt use injured reserve until the player appears on the injured reserve report the Thurs before Sundays games? I tried that crap before and you slapped my hands but I see it being used wrongly by my overzealous colleagues. Whats the deal?? I could even understand if they have been put on IR this early but some are just hurt and quite plainly the system is being abused (Jon Beason). Reach inside your inner Goodell and slap them down!! Suspend the player for a couple of weeks lets see some crap hit the fan!!!!! Come on!!

I vote no on the waiver wire as well. I like the "hunt and eat what you kill" system we have currently.... years ago before you could manage a claim on a phone remotely it would have been a possibility but now most can make a claim at anytime.
Nashville Salamanders, the only team to win a division with a sub .500 record.
