Shorten the Draft!

Post by wolfe »

18 rounds takes forever. We don't even keep most of the players we pick up after Round 12.

At the end of the season draftees per round still on a roster:
1st 12
2nd 12
3rd 11
4th 10
5th 7
6th 8
7th 6
8th 8
9th 8
10th 6
11th 9
12th 8
13th 5
14th 7
15th 5
16th 6
17th 2
18th 1

Free Agents 101 (8.41 per team)
Keepers 81 (6.75 per team)

Round 1 had 64 starts and 92 nonstarts. 92.86% roster participation
Round 2 had 103 starts and 54 nonstarts. 93.45% roster participation
Round 3 had 110 starts and 44 nonstarts. 91.67% roster participation
Round 4 had 75 starts and 75 nonstarts. 89.29% roster participation
Round 5 had 66 starts and 50 nonstarts. 69.05% roster participation
Round 6 had 73 starts and 61 nonstarts. 79.76% roster participation
Round 7 had 44 starts and 55 nonstarts. 58.93% roster participation
Round 8 had 49 starts and 75 nonstarts. 73.81% roster participation
Round 9 had 47 starts and 89 nonstarts. 80.95% roster participation
Round 10 had 53 starts and 50 nonstarts. 61.31% roster participation
Round 11 had 49 starts and 75 nonstarts. 73.81% roster participation
Round 12 had 69 starts and 52 nonstarts. 72.02% roster participation
Round 13 had 34 starts and 54 nonstarts. 52.38% roster participation
Round 14 had 31 starts and 53 nonstarts. 50.00% roster participation
Round 15 had 53 starts and 52 nonstarts. 62.50% roster participation
Round 16 had 40 starts and 45 nonstarts. 50.60% roster participation
Round 17 had 16 starts and 38 nonstarts. 32.14% roster participation
Round 18 had 30 starts and 10 nonstarts. 23.81% roster participation
The rules are fair. The regulations are fair.

How much are you talking bout cutting off? More freezers or reduced roster sizes?

edit: you explained your proposal in the 1st league, but not this one ;)

Same roster size. Just stop drafting after Round 12 and the last 6 players can be picked up as free agents after the draft.
The rules are fair. The regulations are fair.

Ive wanted this in for years. Stopping at round 12 would be fine, but going to 14 would be my choice. Most guys picked after 14 can be had as FA's anyway. Going 18 would be ok but most dont prepare for 18 rds, Sorry guys, I have to call it like I see it.

While we are discussing alternatives, I wouldnt mind seeing franchising limitations such as 3 yr max then they go back to draft. Football careers are short anyways. Then we would find out who the better GMs are. Actually we already know who they are ...me. I want to say thanks to all my fans out there and yes we are looking great in camp again and we will do what we do ..Just win Baby.

I am also in agreeance with stopping the draft short whether it be at round 12 or 14 either one. I vote yes!
