-- Titans Free Agency Update --
Sat Mar 3, 2007

The Nashville Tennessean reports the Titans intended to move slowly at the start of free agency, and Friday they made only a little ripple, not a big splash. So it was good news for them that action around the rest of the league, where record amounts of money are available for players on the market, was not fast-paced. "We planned to be patient, to kind of let the smoke clear from the market," GM Mike Reinfeldt said. "I think a lot of the agents thought it would be big deals all over the place, and it has been kind of slow. "So that's not a bad thing. I think we'll wait for the market to settle down and pick our spots and pursue the players we think can help us." One of those players could be former Titans DE Kevin Carter, who was released by Miami on Thursday. Agent Harold Lewis said he'd spoken with the Titans, and Carter views Tennessee "as a place he would like to come home to," though nothing is imminent. Reinfeldt said Carter could match up well with the team's needs on the defensive line. "Kevin could be a guy of interest to us," he said. "He plays a position where we would like to get some depth, so that's something we'll consider." The Titans don't have a similar interest in WR Joe Horn, a recent cut in New Orleans, Reinfeldt said. "I think we'll look at everybody, (but) he's not somebody that's probably at the top of our list (now)," Reinfeldt said. The player likely at the top of the Titans' wish list at receiver is their own WR Drew Bennett, but Bennett was in St. Louis Friday and could have a deal with the Rams before he leaves town. Tennessee's top three free agents — Bennett, WR Bobby Wade and DT Robaire Smith — all got contract offers from the team within the last week, according to Reinfeldt. Reinfeldt is also trying to renegotiate the contract of RB Travis Henry. But in order to avoid an $8.3 million roster bonus due Monday, the team could cut Henry today while looking to bring him back after he gets a look at the market for his services.

LenDale White-RB- Titans Mar. 4 - 11:49 am et

The Titans expect LenDale White to take "a big jump" in his second year.

White seemed immature as a rookie but flashed the talent that made him a horse at the college level. Tennessee is not expected to actively seek running back help in free agency, so White appears to have better than a 50-50 shot to be the Titans' starter following Travis Henry's release.

i gave you my opinion...good riddance to Drew, and i also voiced my displeasure with our inactivity in free agency!

someone compared us to the panthers because that is what they do...wait until all the big name and money players go and then look for bargains! what upsets me is i think there is a salary cap floor this season of 102 million...maybe we will use the money we have to secure all of our current players, but we all know we need several key players at WR, DE, CB, FS, RB to name a few!

I still think we are going to miss Drew. What we have is nothing at WR. He may have dropped some balls, but he wasn't the only one dropping balls this season. Our WR corps got worse. Maybe we'll sign D. Stallworth and watch him add to our free agent woes and blow out his hamstring, i.e. Yancy Thigpen, Carl Pickens, David Givens. Will the list go on?

One thing about Stallworth is that he sure can stretch the field.

i agree with you, but do you believe he was worth $30 million over 6 seasons?

Easy now...I've been flamed before for criticizing copy-and-paste posts. But then again, some assholes are just waiting for an opportunity to persecute me.
