GUESS WE ARE KEEPING HIM!!!

03/02 14:32 Titans: McNair's $50 million option bought out
THE NEWS
The Titans exercised a $1 million buyout option that means they won't have to pay Steve McNair a $50 million bonus, but it does lock him in for a $9 million salary for 2006. The deal voids the final three years of McNair's contract and yields a $14 million cap hit for $2006.

Our View
The team is currently negotiating with McNair for a longer-term deal that could provide even more immediate cap relief and would also keep McNair around while the team grooms his successor. Whether that successor is currently on the Titans roster (i.e. Billy Volek or Matt Mauck) or yet to be selected in the upcoming draft (Vince Young, Matt Leinart, or Jay Cutler, perhaps) remains to be seen; for now, the Titans know they have McNair as their starter for 2006.
