SHORT YARDAGE OFFENSE USED ALL YEAR

Post by cedy »

First year member and disagree with one thing in MTFFL II. I would like to see the current rules change to the fact that only 2 running backs can be started each week. This would accomplish two things, first the long time members would have no need to hoard all the quality running backs. Second maybe a true offense would be introduced with the use of tight ends. With the current rules it takes severeal years to gain the key players to compete with the points race that allowed a 3rd place in his division to the championship game. I agree that the final position of the playoffs should come from the points. I just dont think that a offense that is used less than 3% of all NFL plays should put him there. DO AWAY WITH 3 RUNNING BACKS :bash:

It has been that way for 11 years! The point was that we could use any real formation. See here; http://www.mtffl.com/rulebook.php Look at #7. I can understand your frustration, but good drafting and/or trading is needed to get those RBs. Those who have them didn't just pop up with them one day.

I've been trying to figure out a way to prevent RB hoarding for years. I would definitely support a rule to limit the starting line up to 2 RB's. But I would not support anything to have a mandatory TE rule. I like that the starting line up is flexible, but I don't like the idea of 3 RB's anymore.
The rules are fair. The regulations are fair.

Starting three running backs has nothing to do with the points I gathered, The points that I gained were through trades as Anthony spoke of. Romo and Johnson are who helped me get to the playoffs. Both of which were aquired through trades.I started three running backs 5 times, which is 35.7% of the season and I started one running back 4 times. To once again support Anthony on drafting and trading......when I did start three running backs, they were a combination of these guys and how they were aquired:

Tomlinson-- saver
Graham-- saver
Mendenhall-- draft
Betts-- draft
Pittman-- free agent waiver wire
McAllister-- free agent waiver wire

I didnt "hoard" running backs...I saved two. I aquired the other guys through free agency or draft which you had an equal opportunity to do. Not sure exactly where you see three running backs as a reason for me getting to the playoffs.

By the way, if it makes you feel any better, you can make the playoffs with some luck. I just took this team over last season after there were only like 8 rounds or so drafted for it. And not good players either...like A.J. Hawk in the first round. I had to pick up 10 free agents after the draft was over. I struggled through and made the playoffs this year. I think I actually finished 6-8 last year as well. So it can be done. Hang in there.

first of all, my statement was meant for all and not just one. The fact that RB's are hoarded is evident by the rosters that are maintained. I did aquire a better RB's thru draft and trades also. This does not change the fact that we all started a line up with 3 RB's. This is just an observation that I had made and would like to see changed in the future.

And I quote..."With the current rules it takes several years to gain the key players to compete in the points race that allowed a 3rd place in his division to the championship game".

Yeah that would pretty much single me out there dude, since I was the 3rd place guy in my division that made it to the championship game. Yes there are alot of running backs gained during the season....I wouldnt call it hoarding really. Would it be better if we carried 8 DEs on our team instead? The reason for hoarding is directly connected to roster size. If we didnt have 25 spots to fill, then we wouldnt stock up and keep running backs. They are the hardest position to fill. Thats why the backups are drafted. This isnt a Yahoo league where the backups are available. Many are drafted....Im not going to have 8 at one of the defensive spots or QB....so where should we add players without "hoarding"??

With all of that being said...seeing as though it is your first year and you my not know...you can propose rules changes. We usually have several every year that are debated. This year for some reason in this league we didnt. You have to have 2/3 margin (8 out of 12) to overturn any rule. This league is a democracy to a certain extent.

position limit may help...

i'm one of the ones that hoard rb's. if there's no rule against it, i will continue to do so.
