The Titans will place the franchise tag on free agent TE Bo Scaife by 4PM ET Thursday, according to NFL.com's Adam Schefter.
Wednesday's extension with Rob Bironas freed up the Titans to keep their top pass-catching tight end. Scaife would've looked good in a Falcons uniform, but only costs $4.462 million to franchise. The move will also make L.J. Smith and Jerramy Stevens the top two free agent TEs on the market.

I like Washington and think he would be a great addition!
The Titans are believed to be interested in free agent WR Nate Washington.
The athletic deep threat is an improvement on Justin McCareins, but that's damning with faint praise. The Titans should be aiming higher at wide receiver if they want to be a legit contender again in 2009.
