Registering for the Smackroom

Post by Agitator »

Please tell everyone to go to this site FIRST and register to be able to post messages. Www.mtffl.com

This gives people an easy accessible link to our league page on mtffl2.

I've given most everyone their password so once you log in, you will be able to change that.

We will more than likely use the Smackroom for our draft and I will manually input the picks unless everyone wants to use myfantasyleague.com for the draft.

I clicked the button to randomize the draft order so that I could remove the old trades that involved future draft picks. Once the league is full, I will click that button one more time and that will be the order of our draft picks.

Football time in Tennessee!

Why would we not want to use the site? Not sure what the pros would be for doing it in the smackroom. I can see lots of cons............

well I think instead of having 4 hr draft I think we could cut it to about 2 hrs if we did the first couple rds on message board when people have a chance to log on during the day start Aug 15 or sooner. Its different I know, but people have other things to do. Just trying to make the draft regular life friendly that's all.

A 25 rd all day draft scared alot people off and quite frankly scares me too. don't know how everyone else feels on that.. I was hoping to try for first rd and see how It goes. It may crash an burn but first rd should fly by and2 too.

its rd 7thru 25 that will be painfull

I mean that's fine if that's what everyone wants to do. It just requires a lot of work to manually enter the picks and you have to be sure to get it right. The first two rounds could spread out over two weeks depending on how often people can log on. When Im at work Im pretty free to do what I want....like now....but when Im at home in the evenings Im not on from like 4:30 till 10 or 11.
I do realize that with 300 total picks in this draft, even if we drop the timer down to 60 seconds, it could still take 4 hours. So Im down for whatever, not trying to be negative, just bringing both positives and negatives to the discussion. I will draft however we have to....just as long as there is a draft!!

Hey, another thought. One of the most fun things for me is the draft. The anticipation, wondering if "my" player will be there on my pick or whatever. I would hate having the say 5th pick.....and whoever has the 4th pick waiting a day or even half a day to make their pick. The anticipation would kill me waiting to get "my" guy! I would be checking every three minutes. What if we leave our roster size the 25 or whatever we decide it is but we do it opposite from what you are suggesting.

Brian suggested we draft the first half online especially since the earlier rounds go the quickest. Its the latter rounds that people get bogged down on. So, if we were to have a 25 man roster, lets say we draft the first 18 rounds or so. Then we switch to message board drafting for the last 7? There isn't as much excitement or anticipation in those rounds. People are just filling out a roster, or picking up their sleeper picks. It could take up to two weeks or all the way up to the season for that matter and it wouldn't be a big deal.

The devils advocate view: "I wont be able to make changes to my roster till the draft is done. That limits me after seeing more preseason games." This is true but a side affect I could deal with.

"If the last 7 rounds aren't that interesting then why not just pick them up off the waiver wire?" This is also a good point, but in fairness to everyone involved, there will still be good players on the board and this is a fair way to limit someone like me to just come in and get the top 7 players left before anyone else has the chance to get them. Now if we have a waiver wire in place, then that may work....not sure if it would after the draft with no rankings of teams. That would put us to doing it on the message board.

So what do you guys think?

Or we draft the first 12 rounds and do the other 13 on the message board. Lets don't get hung up on how many rounds we do online as compared to how many on the message board.

The main thing Brian and I are saying is to do the early rounds in the draft room, and do the latter rounds on the message board. The number of rounds is not what we are debating. Even Shane said in his previous post that rounds 7 through 25 are painful. Let those be the rounds that we draft "whenever" we can, not the early rounds.

Drafting on the smackroom also requires 12 people to keep up with who has already been drafted. That way there is no picks and time wasted on people drafting players that are already on a team.

Ok.....I think that's all...........

look I get what your saying and I hate to kill your anticipation but the earlier rds will go faster b/c better players are known hence everyone knows the stars its the back up safety in the 24 who takes the time that is going to painful. I highly doubt you will wait a day and half on a first rd pk. You will get all the anticipation you want and then some in league 1 and its only 18. Mick and I were there for 25 rder and It was 6 hrs and those guys were pretty good. Lets try it and see how it goes Legend and if it bombs we will shift to alternate plan.

Since your such Legend it seems you wouldnt mind so much. Your whole anticipation stance is starting to scare me. It isnt that euphoric for me or maybe I am staying past my time who knows. Can we try rd 1 for the love of God by message bd and see how it goes. I love this stuff as much as the next but Im not doing a 6 hr draft. All you would have to do is scroll up to see who has been picked and our keen Commish; any 4 of them would point out a mistake fairly quickly to ease your nerves.

No sense in wasting a whole weekend day on a draft when its hard enough to coordinate as it is. If I could start and see how it goes at rd 7 I would but we cant we have to start at rd 1 to see how it goes that's all bro. Why the major stance on against speeding the draft up that helps everyone but your anticipation. Hell I loved the anticipation of Christmas, Easter, Halloween the fair but you lose it after a while. A rd could take 2 days so what.... A week.. big deal... we still have to schedule a day to wrap up. spending a certain amount of money on whatever has nothing to do with it. Its about convenience. No reason to get pissed on trying something new for 1 rd to see how It works.
