Titans, Chargers :: QB
Associated Press
Tennessee Titans HC Jeff Fisher responded to critics of the Tennessee Titans' dealings with Billy Volek by saying that Volek lied to him and never took advantage of the opportunity to be the starter. "I never at anytime in my career have gone into such detail(about a trade). But I felt the responsibility, as Billy felt he was thrown under the bus," Fisher said. "Billy threw this organization under the bus, along with a number of his teammates."

-- The Truth Behind Volek & Fisher? --
Sun Sep 24, 2006
· Fox Sports reports when QB Billy Volek was first handed the reins to the Tennessee Titans starting quarterback job he was asked to come and throw with the wideouts in the off-season. After all, it was his ship to steer now. Volek, however, never showed up for Day 1. As legend now has it, Volek said he couldn't come because he was sick. When HC Jeff Fisher called to see how he was, the coach was told he wasn't sick but was instead playing golf. When the coach informed Volek they were bringing in QB Kerry Collins, rather than battle it out, he immediately demanded — not asked for but demanded — a trade. Finally, 15 minutes before Volek went off on the coach to the media he met with Fisher and told him how he wanted to leave it off to where he would always be welcome back in Nashville.
