Scoring Change for Kickers

Post by wolfe »

As discussed and approved at the very end of the Draft yesterday, the scoring for kickers will now be:

3 pts - made FG 0-39 yards
4 pts - made FG 40-49 yards
5 pts - made FG 50+ yards
-1 pt for missed FG

1pt for made XP
-1 pt for missed XP
The rules are fair. The regulations are fair.

According to the settings on MyFantasyLeague.com

Missed FG are defined as:
This is the number of missed field goals in a game. This includes field goal attempts that were blocked, but not aborted attempts in which the kicker doesn't get a chance to make the kick.
and extra points as:
This is the number of missed extra points in a game. This includes extra point attempts that were blocked.
The rules are fair. The regulations are fair.

Very interesting.
After I made the scoring change on MyFantasyLeague.com, I received an e-mail that said the stats for the 2010 league had been recalculated for the 2008 and 2009 seasons in the Players Stats page.

So now we can easily compare what would have happened last year using this scoring rule. Not much really changed.

The 2009 stats with the new scoring rule:
http://football16.myfantasyleague.com/2 ... ints&TEAM=*

The 2009 stats with the old rule:
http://football16.myfantasyleague.com/2 ... ints&TEAM=*
The rules are fair. The regulations are fair.

We could still bring this up for the 1st league. Simply create a poll, and have owners vote on it. JMO, it's nice to have both leagues with the same rules! (excluding H"BS"FA)

If I had had time to analyze the data, I would have voted against this. This rule is inconsequential. If this would have changed your draft strategy, then you are a fool.

This rule doesn't make kickers more or less significant. And it doesn't really change the ranking of the kickers.

The kicker that improved the most with the new scoring system was Janikowski. And it only moved him from #19 to #14. Who wants to hang on to the #14 kicker in a 12 team league?

I think your getting too hung up on the rankings.. The beauty of the change in scoring is when two owners have a super close game that can be decided on the make or miss of a long field goal. It just adds alittle more to the way you can win or lose a game.

These kickers tried really hard tonight to become the first kickers ever in this league with a negative score.

Hartley with 2XP and 2 missed FG = 0pts
Longwell with 1 missed XP and 1 40+ FG = 3pts

Exciting stuff
